To get to Townsville:

Air:

Townsville International Airport is served by QANTASVirgin Blue, and Jetstar and has domestic services from all major capital cities from the south and Cairns from the North. Many of the flights will touch down in Brisbane (Queensland’s capital in the south of the State) and may change flight code there. However, all domestic flights are in one big terminal so changing planes (or changing airlines if necessary) is not difficult.

If coming into Cairns, there are several flights daily with QANTAS  and Skytrans.

If arriving from overseas, refer to FareHunter-Australia or above details for domestic connections.

Rail:

The wonderful Sunlander, Queenslander and Tilt Train services from Brisbane or Cairns operated by Queensland Rail are a magnificent way to see the Queensland country if you have the time.

We particularly recommend the Tilt Train from Cairns as this daytime service provides very comfortable and scenic journey.

Bus:

Greyhound offer services right round Australia and have an excellent terminal located at the Sunferries ferry terminal in Townsville.

Road:

Townsville is on Highway 1, The Bruce Highway, which stretches from Melbourne up to Cairns. Townsville is at the junction with the great inland road, The Overlanders  Highway, which leads to the heart of Australia then right across to the west.

Sailing:

Townsville is a major port with terminals for several cruise lines. There are two excellent marinas in Townsville.

FROM TOWNSVILLE TO MAGNETIC:

Sunferries passenger ferry is a fast 25 minute catamaran service which has 14 departures a day. Bookings not needed.
